Dubais and the Wolfs, Knight of the Comet, and Big Joanie

Dubais and the Wolfs, Knight of the Comet, and Big Joanie

A rare UK performance from Nadia Buyse as 'Dubais and the Wolfs', supported by US band Knight of the Comet, and the UK's own Big Joanie.

Dubais - Nadia Buyse is perpetually-changing concept band. Nadia says, 'It's my response to participating in an industry where, especially as a woman of color, you have to subscribe yourself to a certain "sound" or "image" to create a marketable product that can be easily digested and packaged by a publicist and redistributed word for word on Pitchfork. The iteration of DUBAIS that's playing in London is my new punk band DUBAIS and the WOLFS ; featuring Allison Wolfe (as herself) Philip Hucknell (as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on bass) and Steve Dore (as the wolfman on drums.)'

Allison Wolfe was raised in an all-female, single-parent household by a lesbian feminist mother who started the first women’s health clinic in Olympia, Washington. While attending the Evergreen State College, she co-founded a punk feminist fanzine Girl Germs, all-girl band Bratmobile, and third-wave feminist punk movement riot grrrl. Allison also initiated the non-profit feminist music festival Ladyfest. She lives in Los Angeles, where she got her masters in arts journalism from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Allison produces a monthly podcast for Tidal called “I’m in the Band,” sings in the band Ex Stains, and is working on an oral history of riot grrrl book and audio archive.
